The Day I broke my Iphone

IT was a normal school day morning. We were up at 6:00 AM and left the house at about 6:45. IT was still dark outside. The sun has not fully risen yet.

Fruit flies are normally always present at our bus stop. They hover around our face while we wait for the bus. I think they are attracted to the papaya soap or the fruit flavored toothpaste that we use. While waiting for the bus, i normally check my phone to see what time the bus would come. I was holding the phone on my left hand and my laptop bag on my right. I can see fruit flies already hovering on my face, landing momentarily on my cheeks then fly again.

With the very little light available to us, I saw what looked like a fly landed on my left arm. I immediately ordered Jacob to hit the fly. With all his might, he gathered all his strength and slap my arm. This is the point where I dropped my phone on the rough concrete floor. I immediately picked it up and saw the screen cracked. It was still working but you can clearly see the cracks.

Jacob was very worried. He was speechless for a minute. I can already see the guilt from his face. He said sorry in a soft and somewhat afraid manner. He said it was his fault.I did not respond, maybe due to shock or for wanting Jacob to feel the guilt. He said sorry again, again I wasn't responding.

He then pulled his wallet from his pocket, open the wallet's zipper and took his 2 dollar note, his allowance for that day. He slowly handed it to me and asked me if i can buy a new one with the $2. I got teary eyed knowing that it was not his fault. I then told him that it was an accident and it was the fly's fault not his. The bus came.

While on the bus, i looked again on my left arm, still reddish but I can clearly see the small blemish/dot on my skin that i mistook for a fly.
